The region of Murcia lies between Alicante and Andalucia, in the purest of the Spanish Mediterranean quarters. Its historical heritage, stunning Cathedral, museums, cultural centres, fiestas, theatre, cinema, concerts, sports as well the culture, which is reflected in the number of monuments, museums and exhibition halls, Murcia is a city for shoppers, with its traditional commerce and large department stores, together with traditional piazzas with restaurants and café-bars.
The ancient city of Cartagena which dates back to the times of conflict between the Carthaginians and Romans is a city with a great deal history and archaeological interest, for example the recent discovery of the Roman amphitheatre. The upgrading of the harbour in Cartagena is now complete and the city is now regarded very upmarket with excellent shopping facilities in “Calle Mayor”, together with restaurants and café-bars overlooking the harbour.
For many years the southern coast of Murcia has been a well kept secret.
